5 tips to make the most of your massage
1. Communication
Let me know how I can help you before our session by filling out the client form sent to you on booking. Here you can explain why you are in need of a massage, what type of massage you would like, any injuries, what you would like included/excluded etc.. Throughout your session I will check in with you regarding, temperature and pressure but feel free to jump in at any stage if you are uncomfortable or need more or less pressure, the last thing I want for you is to spend the session in discomfort or worse in frustration…
2. Enjoy the peace
Once we have had our pre session briefing I encourage you to allow yourself full relaxation of the body and mind by slipping into stillness, this means no need to talk, which keeps your mind active. If you can, focus on your breath, the ease and flow throughout your body and the sensations in your body.
3. Allow time to yourself after your massage
Go home have a bath, enjoy a mindful lunch in nature, go for a walk. Enjoy the benefits of the massage beyond our session, the body will be adjusting to a new way of being, give it time.
4. After care
I almost always suggest using a heat bag on the muscles we have worked on to keep the blood flowing freely through these areas. This will decrease any tenderness you may experience after a treatment. Drink plenty of water after you session, during a massage your muscle tissue becomes dehydrated. Continue with light movement after your massage as your muscle tissue continues to relax. I would not suggest any strenuous exercise after your session, Using a roller on tight muscles in between massage treatments will reduce tension and assist in the suppleness of the muscle.
5. Consistency
Keep up with regular massage to stay on top of the tension and stress that creeps up on you in the week/month. The benefits of a therapeutic massage are cumulative and the best results are experienced over time. Generally in one session we will not address all you aches and pains. Often the treatment needed for particularly tight muscles are better carried out over a few weeks for lasting results and less intensity in each session.
Enjoy!
